GWA is jumping into fall by launching our new worksite app. The app allows members to learn and post about hundreds of renewable energy sites nationwide. This has long been a priority of GWA leaders and we are thrilled it is becoming a reality!
Developed in collaboration with WorkIt Labs, the tool allows members to learn about site conditions and nearby lodging options--crucial information for traveling wind and solar workers. We are currently in a soft launch, with leaders testing out the site and adding information. We plan to do a public launch later this fall. Special thanks to GWA operations coordinator Kate Brana Milian for taking the lead on this project!
We ended the summer on a high note. GWA members continued to turn out to support solar project approvals at hearings in August and one of the solar projects, in Hardin County, was recently approved by the Ohio Power Siting Board. Members mobilized across the state this summer, combating opposition to solar projects largely fueled by misinformation. We also mobilized members to support OSHA's proposed safety standard to protect workers from extreme heat. GWA member Joseph Salcido spoke alongside OSHA director Doug Parker and Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) in an online town hall organized by National COSH to support the proposal.
Fall promises more progress. GWA members are being interviewed by several reporters, speaking on online and in-person panels, and preparing for a workers rights training. We're excited about our plans for the rest of 2024---follow us on social media to learn more.
